Things I want in life

Are these too much to ask for?

-To get into grad school and finish in two years
-To have an amazing and exciting career in teaching ASL/Interpreting
-A wonderful husband and children in the near future
-To own a charming and fun house to grow into
-To lose the weight I need and feel good about it
-Have the opportunity to do some traveling in our country and abroad as well

Yeah, it seems like a lot to ask for. I can only hope these come true.

The three-zero birthday wishes!

Well, I am turning the big 3-0 this year, in May. These are a few of the things I have on my wish list:

Makeup consultation- something fun and new
New wardrobe
Waxing @ Wax On Spa in Portland - always wanted to try

and

would totally make my day if I got to see this special somebody-- not counting on it though! :-)

Okay, maybe having my options down here will help me sort out my thoughts and process I am going to use to figure out where to apply and what the pros and cons are so here goes nothing:

Gallaudet University
Programs:
MA in Deaf Studies with specialization in teaching ASL
MA in Interpretation
MA in Linguistics (??)

Pros:
Center of Deaf universe
Aunt Cris and Sandy at Gally
Reputation of Gallaudet
Begin fall of 2010
New environment, experience

Cons:
Washington DC
Far from family
Out of State tuition
Cost of living
Far from medical care (OHSU)
doesnt have track in Interpreting education

Western Oregon University:

Programs:
MA in Interpreting Education

Pros:
Already here at home
Have good rapport with professors
Degree will open so many more opportunities
Can teach ASL at WOU part time
1 1/2 year program

Cons:
Online with summers onsite
New program
not gauranteed yet (will know by June)
Program not starting until Summer 2011

Northwestern University, Boston:

Program: Masters in Education: Interpreting Pedagogy

Pros:
Online program
Can stay in Oregon and teach ASL at WOU
Have suppport and practicing opportunity at WOU
Support of faculty
Seems to have good list of well known names on faculty

Cons:
Program is not well known
Have never been to Boston
Don't know faculty
Can't find anyone to talk to

University of Northern Colorado

Program:
MA in Teaching ASL

Pros:
Not online
Colorado is beautiful
Something new

Cons:
Far from family
Know no one, except Eli
Not much is known about program
No contacts

This is a scary decision to make and I have no idea how to move forward about getting things moving. I am HORRIBLE about figuring out all the application process, paperwork and stuff. It is just so overwhelming. :-/

Beginning of 2010

.... is proving to be interesting already. I find out via school email that my last class of my education at WOU was canceled. I became aggravated especially because this class was the whole point of the ASL Studies program. To learn the foundations of ASL linguistics and how to teach ASL. The class was to teach us how to develop our own curriculum for teaching. GAH.
Then I discover that Carl, our professor who was supposed to teach our canceled class wasn't teaching any classes this term. It turns out he has been put on administrative leave. Rumors are that some people are planning on making some noise regarding this new development. I have a meeting with the department chair tomorrow morning because now I need to find a new substitution course and be able to graduate on time after winter term. Maybe i'll find out more then.
Life has been pretty lonely these days. It is getting harder every day to live alone and not having much interaction with others on a daily basis. I am hoping that the start of winter term changes that; with working and hopefully even though I'm only taking one class technically will keep me busy enough and around other people to keep me away from home.
Otherwise, 2010.. bring it on: graduating in March, turning 30 in May and hopefully starting my MA somewhere in the fall.
